Mary Carey plans run for lieutenant governor

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Blond porn star, political candidate. And now you can add one more line to Mary Carey's resume: Republican booster.
Carey was in Washington Tuesday to attend the President's Dinner, an annual fundraiser put on by the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
A few hours before the dinner, Carey met with reporters to show off her evening gown and talk about a Republican lunch she and her boss, adult film executive Mark Kulkis, attended.
"I met a lot of nice people," Carey said of the lunch, where presidential adviser Karl Rove spoke. "I met some people who talked about helping me with donating money to my next campaign."
She plans to run for lieutenant governor of California next year as an independent. But her trip to Washington has swayed Carey's political leanings. She says she's been a Republican "for a couple of days."
Anyone expecting her to cause a scene with her attire at the President's Dinner might be disappointed.
She was wearing a black, floor-length gown. The only color added to the outfit was her red, white and blue Republican elephant lapel pin and similarly patriotic fingernails.

That's a pretty fine line, huh. Arnold, well... okay. He's supposedly the sexist guy from the movies, but pretty tame in the big picture. Oscar Goodman is the guy who defended the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas before it went corporate. But a porn star? If she has the right PR, she might just pull it off. I'm not sure I'd be running to place my vote for her. However - if she really does have intelligence, the ability to complete a speech without giggling and popping her gum (oh yeah with full sentences too), and the right answers to the right questions, I'm sure she'll get some real attention.
Actually, I'd love to see this happen for only one reason: the mainstream media portrays the GOP as wealthy business owners. This would be a good shock to the system. I'm still trying to figure out what Howard Dean meant by Republicans "never made an honest living in their lives." Is that only half of the nation that holds these jobs? Seems like I need to change parties and work less.
I just have to wonder, did she pose for the picture with her mouth open like that on purpose to get more votes? hmmm :)
Lora -- Are you familiar with the story of Asia Carrera? Porn star. Member of Mensa. Retired at age 30 to get married and have children with several hundred thousand in a diversified portfolio of mutual funds that she had started investing in at age 17?
Martin -- I am still waiting for the 2008 presidential election, as it is rumored that it will be Jeb Bush v. Hillary Clinton.

Hadn't heard of Asia Carrera. It's not that I think all girls in the sex industry are stupid... I met a girl once who danced at Olympic Garden who was studying for her bar exam. Politics and politicians already have trouble being taken seriously; the recall election for CA's governor was a complete joke, wouldn't you agree? If she's serious and can handle the job, then more power to her. I'll believe it when I see it.
