Calling collect

I wonder how someone starts out being a collector. Is it some recessive gene somewhere? Maybe its environmental and you learn it at an early age. I am an avid collector. I collect books (over 1000), coins, comics, stock certificates, chess sets, robots, and medieval weapons. I have collected in the past: Magic the Gathering cards and casino chips. My wife collects Disney snowglobes and Disney beanie babies. Even my son has a collection or two. Yet, my 9 siblings don't collect anything (at least that I am aware of). Ok, my brother did collect Magic the Gathering cards, but he sold his collection after a few years when he quit playing. Am I in the minority? I know everyone has a few books and a DVD collection, but what about useless things? Restore my faith in humanity, tell me what you collect.

The way I see it, this could be anywhere from truly enlightening to completely pointless and stupid.

What is up with all the spammers??? They've hitting hard the last couple of days... It bites!

I would say that I don't really have any collections, but I guess I do have a lot of books, CDs and DVDs. But really, those are only to save me time and money, seeing how that's what I do with my free time.

I don't think you're in the minority, though. Lot's of people collect stuff for all kinds of different reasons. What I find funny is how people try to force a collection on you.

I bought a marble egg several years ago, just because I liked the way it looked. Now, I have several tucked away in a box (I think it's still out in the garage...) that I can't seem to get rid of. It's almost like magic how this stuff follows you around.

Anyway, sorry I got off the subject there, lol.

BTW, how are you doing with those sexual thoughts every 24 seconds, now that Teri isn't around? :p That's gotta be tough!

I still have well over 20,000 Magic the Gathering cards I am saving for my kids.

But you are right, I guess I do not collect really anything.

Don't forget as a kid you collected stamps.

BTW I figured out all your memory problems, it was because Mom let you play with all that mercury as a kid.

I used to start collections and grow easily bored with them. That combined with the fact that standing still too long in my house gets you donated or thrown out with the trash doesn't help any collecting habits. The only thing I have a lot of is CDs, so I guess that counts...

I am sorry to disappoint, Mr. DavydGrey-that's-not-your-real name, but I have no collections. I'm more like one of those throw-it-ALL-away people. It's probably 'cause I have no where to put it.

But if I could, I'd collect souls.

bullseye -- interesting site, you have some psychological problems though.

RT -- I had to delete at least 3 or 4 spam posts. And now that Teri is gone, I find that I am averaging a sexual thought at better than an every 24 second clip.

Brother -- What mecury? I don't remember that. [chuckle]

Jenn -- Souls hmmm, I would have thought you would have collected bloggers who want to get down your pants.

No, those are platonic relationships. B)

I collect too many things. Particular books, CDs (especially from one decade), DVDs and... bi-centennial quarters. There are also my stacks of projects that need to be done but probably won't.

I collect a few things, myself, but if you want to talk collections, I know a lady in the San Fernando Valley who can make you feel so much better about your collection habits! We'll have to take you to the house of Lulu.
